Soldier Pillowcase Project

"It started out with a mom trying to get her kid something
he asked for," said Monique Krebsbach.
Krebsbach mentioned the request to her friend Jill Olson,
and an idea was born. Olson had long wanted to support the
troops, and she's known Damian since he was 2 years old.
"Once I heard he was in Afghanistan, I said OK. This is the
year we are going to get mothers and daughters together
and send pillows and make handmade pillowcases and
support the troops," Olson said.
This weekend, Olson and Krebsbach planned to pack up the
pillows and other goodies so the packages can get in the
mail and arrive in Afghanistan before Christmas. They have
a lot more to pack than they originally bargained for, too.
Olson and Krebsbach are both physical therapists, and when they decided to launch the full-blown Pillowcase Project,
they used the advertising they run for their businesses to reach their patients and community members. Olson owns
Peak Performance Physical Therapy, and Krebsbach runs Monique Krebsbach Physical Therapy.
"That's when it just exploded," Olson said. So far, she guessed hundreds of people have supported the effort. For
starters, a mother and daughter with the Bitterroot Quilters Guild, Amy and Nicole Veltkamp, made beautiful
pillowcases sewn in Western motifs. There's six feminine prints for the six women in Damian's unit. And there's other
treats, like cases of peanuts. Toothpaste and dental floss. Toothbrushes donated by local dentists. Jerky. And boxes of
candy and wet wipes and deodorant and cards of encouragement and much more.
"It's just been so exciting where we've had this huge outpouring from this community of this love," Olson said.

Dear Soldiers,
These books are from my Grandpa and here is the story
that goes with them. I spent Thanksgiving with my
grandparents in Bozeman, MT. When I told them about us
collecting things to send to all of you for Christmas, he
started to cry and said "I wish someone had sent things to
us". My Grandfather was a soldier in World War II. My
Grandma immediately took me downstairs to get these
books for you. Bob Ross is a cowboy poet from Bozeman
and he wrote the books we are sending. We hope that
you will enjoy reading his Outhouse Poetry.
God Bless You,
Liz Austin
